Duale says that Raila is lying and that the government is not having any negotiations for a referendum.

Speaking in Garissa Town on Friday, Duale further said that referendum is not part of the agenda for the Building Bridges committee chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and his Busia counterpart Amos Wako.

Duale alleges that Raila is using the March 9 handshake to campaign for a referendum.

"Raila Odinga should stop lying to Kenyans that there is going to be a constitutional referendum," he said.

Duale also warned Raila against pre-empting what the Building Bridge's committee is discussing.

He said that the country cannot afford to have a referendum before 2022.

"It is unnecessary and costly and we are not ready for any constitutional review," the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly said.

Raila has been quoted saying that he and President Uhuru Kenyatta are negotiating  to have constitutional referendum before the 2022 general election.

Several politicians across the political divide have supported calls for constitutional review.

However, some politicians among them Deputy President William Ruto are against the calls for constitutional referendum.
