Deputy President William Ruto on Friday left tongues wagging after he boycotted a function in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political bedrock of Mt Kenya.
Ruto had been scheduled to officiate Karatina University’s 6th Graduation ceremony on Friday, November 2.
The boycott came a day after President Kenyatta went on a tongue lashing at unnamed leaders who he accused of ‘loitering’.
The head of state had been in Karatina on Thursday when he opened a market and read the riot act on Mt Kenya MPs accusing them of engaging in 2022 politics instead of working for the people.
“The President’s tough talk might have kept the DP away. He is known to be a friend of this region and he would not have skipped the function,” an MP from Mt Kenya region said.
A quick scan on the DP’s social media pages showed that he attended the requiem mass of the late Jane Kiano and later hosted President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for a lunch on the day.
