The County Government of Uasin Gishu is in the final stages of building a 15,000-bag cereal store at Kapseret Sub County.
The project that will be implemented through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries is valued at Sh15 million.
This comes at a time that farmers are facing a stalemate on whether the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) has space for the new harvest.
It will, however, come as a sigh of relief for the new modern maize store targeting this year's harvest from farmers at Tuiyo farm in Kapseret Sub County.
Chief Officer Agriculture Dr Victoria Tarus and the site contractor Testai Constructions have hinted that the store will start being in use in December.
During the site visit to Tuiyo Farmers Cooperative Society store, Dr Tarus said the community needs to own up such projects as it will soon be handed over to them for their use and management.
"We want to minimise post-harvest losses of maize that farmers experience as well as be able to store as much as possible within these areas. This is because the store will hold up to fifteen thousand 90kgs bags of maize," she said.
The store has a few finishes ongoing for its clearance for use which include: wiring, plumbing, dryer placement and latrine construction.
Dr Tarus later visited Tuiyo milk cooler structure also funded by the County Government to a cost of Sh5 million and commended the contractor for the good work done.
The milk cooler structure is already complete just awaiting power connection for it to receive the cooler tank.
