At one time Nyachae held a tight grip on Gusii politics. Nyachae in 2002 presidential Elections had been voted to a man in GUSII.
His party Ford People swept all the Parliamentary seats in Gusii. The late Christopher Matoke a former Knut Secretary and a once ardent supporter of Nyachae and that was common knowledge ,got involved in a road accident hurting his spinal cord in Kisii town.
The Doctors referred him to KNH under one condition that he be airlifted to Nairobi, given that his condition with an injured spine could not stand a road drive.
Mr Nyachae, known to be owning a fleet of aircrafts then and now, was contacted to bail out his friend and an ardent supporter. It's said he flatly rejected or rather dint come to the unionist aid.
Dejected friends and family organised for an ambulance ride to Nairobi. After months of treatment at KNH Mr Christopher Matoke sadly left us. Leaders from Gusii region sent a flurry of Condolences messages to the family.
Mr Nyachae offered to offset the expenses and airlift the body to GUSII, irony at play here! Ain't it? The family flatly rejected the offer of airlifting the body in that when that was a necessity that help never came forth.
His funeral service was done in Gusii Stadium and the 2005 referendum NO team brigade Led by Raila, Magara, Kalonzo and Ruto were present. There was a sea of humanity that came to pay there last respect.
Nyachae did not attend, the mourners were rife to the happenings about the airlift saga. The rest is history Omogusii voted against the new constitution and in 2007 General Elections Nyachae lost his Parliamentary seat to little know Monda.
None of the Ford People MP made a come back and ODM swept most seats and parties affiliated to it carried the rest. When I learnt of Nyantinka Maiyoro's predicament, I went on social Media to call upon the county to sort his Medical bill and Land issues in both counties.
I vehemently said let's not wait till he passes on that's when we start sending Condolences and removing wads of notes. I sent two people one former Harambee stars player Onsinka to go see the patient.
I spoke to the Late Nyandinka and his Son Ken who was taking care of Mzee. Onsika and I were of the opinion that he should be taken to KNH for more specialised treatment. Having gotten a green light from the family, I went on My FB page and wrote that I had offered to organise for a fundraiser in Nairobi.
My target was 2 million that could pay the bill at Christa Marianne and for further treatment at KNH. But God sent Matiangi who I'm told promised to clear the bill.
Today my words have come to pass, mzee is dead and leaders have sent condolence messages and the family as per the daily Nation has politely retorted, " where were you?"My plea is please sort the land issue before the burial otherwise the power of the people may start a revolution. Never ignore history, it took the late Christopher Matoke to start one. AMANDLA!!!
