Powerful figures in President Mwai Kibaki’s administration attempted to interfere with investigations into the Anglo Leasing scandal, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua has said.

Speaking during exclusive interview on KTN News’ Point Blank show, Karua said that the figures, whose identities she didn’t disclose, hatched a plan to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta then opposition leader doesn’t not bring a report on the scandal to parliament. 

She claimed that they came up with a plan to frustrate Uhuru financial to kill the investigations. She noted that they tried to block money from the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee to ensure Uhuru’s plan fails right from the word go. 

The Former Presidential candidate noted that the committee wanted to block Uhuru’s trip to London to probe former Governance and Ethics Permanent Secretary John Githongo on the loss of billions. She also claimed that they came up with a plot to reject the report in parliament by all means. 

Karua also revealed that powerful faces in government compelled Senator Moses Wetang’ula – then Foreign Affairs Minister to present his resignation letter to Former President Mwai Kibaki following the Tokyo Embassy scandal. 

She further revealed that she approached Kibaki and other leaders in government to advise them on how they would save the general public from losing billions in scandals.

“When the opposition, led by none other than Uhuru Kenyatta, was pushing the Government because of the Anglo Leasing scandal, I had to advise Kibaki as the minister of Justice,” she said, as quoted by Standard.

Angloleasing remains one of the mega scandals in the history of this nation. The probe into the loss of billions has taken years.
