The Kiambu County Government under the leadership of Governor Ferdinand Waititu has pledged to support dairy farmers in the county.
In a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, the county boss revealed that his administration would offer free artificial insemination to dairy farmers in Kiambu.
According to Wikipedia, artificial insemination is the deliberate introduction of sperm into a female's cervix or uterine cavity for the purpose of achieving pregnancy through in vivo fertilization by means other than sexual intercourse.
Waititu, who is popularly known as Babayao, noted that the initiative was one of the measures put in place to curb the challenges faced by dairy farmers, by ensuring they have access to affordable and quality services for their cattle.
"Our dairy farmers have been facing challenges related to costly, poor, inefficient and unregulated Artificial Insemination (AI) services. To address these challenges - through the Department of Agriculture and Livestock - the County Government will provide free AI services to dairy farmers in Kiambu," read Waititu's post.
According to a poster shared by the governor, the programme will be launched on February 15 at Githunguri Stadium under the theme "Quality Dairy Products".
