Police in Matinyani, Kitui County have launched a manhunt for a middle-aged-man who allegedly defiled a 17-year-old girl on Thursday morning.
Musyimi Mwongela is said to have waylaid the girl while she was on her way home from the market where she had been sent thereby defiling her.
Matinyani police boss Kibe Mwangi said the suspect eloped using a motorbike after committing the heinous act.
"The incident took place at Kauma in Matinyani,. The girl was headed home from the market where her parents had sent her, the man grabbed and defiled her. The suspect fled after committing the crime but we have launched investigations to ensure he is arrested," Mwangi said.
He addressed the press in his office on Thursday.
Mwangi said they had circulated information across the country for police to intensify the search.
He urged the public to provide credible information to security agencies for the suspect to be arrested as soon as possible.
"Anyone with information no matter how small, should come forward. It may help in nabbing the man," Mwangi said.
He told the locals to be reporting such incidences immediately they happen.
"We won't allow such Caliber of people to exist among us, they must be rooted out and held culpable," he added.
