A fundraiser cum political rally in Nakuru was on Friday turned into an arena of remarks and counter remarks as two Jubilee MPs indirectly tore into each other over the 2022 succession debate.
Among the leaders present was Gatundu South Moses Kuria who hit out at a section of Jubilee leaders for allegedly intimidating area communities to vote in a certain direction.
In an apparent shot at Bahati lawmaker Kimani Ngunjiri, he warned that people should not be forced to back Deputy President William Ruto, under threats that failure to do that might lead to violence.
“Leaders should not intimidate other communities that there will be violence should they not support Ruto’s 2022 bid. That is not wise,” said Kuria as quoted by the Standard.
However, in his defence, Ngunjiri was quick to rubbish the comments, saying that no one has been intimidated to vote for the DP.
“I want to dissociate myself from sentiments by Kuria. What he has said in this meeting is his own views and I should not be associated with that,” said the vocal leader.
The meeting was held at Nakuru's main Wakulima Market and attended by among others, area lawmaker David Gikaria and area Senator and Senate Majority Whip Susan Kihika.
Others were Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Muranga counterpart Irungu Kangata.
