Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has suffered a major blow in his renewed efforts to fight corruption.
This is after one of his top public prosecutors resigned under unclear circumstances.
Renowned lawyer Philip Kipchirchir Murgor quit last week claiming the DPP had failed to give him duties and provide him with security, four months after he was hired.
"Following the formal gazetting of my appointment on January 16, 2019, I have not been assigned any case at all or provided with the required security," he said in a public notice.
Murgor, who served as DPP during retired President Mwai Kibaki tenure, was appointed by Haji to help him secure successful prosecutions.
He was hired on a two-year contract alongside former Mombasa mayor Taib Ali Taib and lawyer James Muruthi Kihara.
Murgor, 58, was expected to be in a legal team led by British advocate Khawar Qureshi representing the DPP on the corruption case against Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
City lawyer Nelson Havi has opined that Murgor resigned after realising he was being misused by Haji.
"Philip Murgor like Khawar Qureshi QC before him has seen the futility of his appointment by DPP Noordin Haji to fight flames instead of fire in the much-hyped graft prosecutions. He has quit quickly and quietly," Havi tweeted on Saturday.
