Residents of Taita Taveta County can now access improved quality healthcare at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Voi courtesy of the Sh150 million CT scan machine installed at the facility.
Deputy President William Ruto launched the machine during his visit in Taita Taveta County on Monday, flanked by Governor Granton Samboja.
Ruto pledged to work hand in hand with the County government to improve the hospital's infrastructure in a bid to achieve universal health care.
He said plans were underway to expand the renal unit and put up an ICU facility in the County.
"If Governor Granton Samboja constructs the structure, the national government will equip it fully. As a government we are committed to improving referral hospitals to ensure beneficiaries access quality health care in the modern facilities as close as possible," said Ruto.
Samboja reassured residents that the machine is officially rendering services.
"The CT scan installed at Moi will improve access to quality health care and significantly reduce the distance that patients travel to Mombasa, Nairobi or Tanzania in search of these vital services," said the governor.
Taveta MP Naomi Shaban who attended the launch lauded Governor Samboja, saying the revenue in the County is not enough to achieve development without working with other partners.
Also present in the were Deputy Governor Majala Mlagui, Voi MP Jones Mlolwa among others.
