A man who has been operating as a Boda boda rider in Gesibo village, Masabo in Kisii County shocked villagers after he went into hiding with his boss's motorbike.
It is alleged that the rider Vincent Kirera has been missing for the last one week.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Enock Nyachae said the suspect was last seen ferrying a customer to Nyacheki on December 3, 2019.
"Kirera had early threatened to steal the motorbike because his boss was too tough on him and had warned him against operating at night. Other riders have searched him everywhere in vain," said the chief.
Nyachae called on anyone with information about the whereabouts of Kirera to report to authorities.
"Riders who wanted to storm the suspect's home and set the houses on fire should halt that plan and cooperate with police to search the suspect. Even if it takes 100 years he will be arrested," said the administrator.
He warned riders against engaging in crime saying the law will not spare them.
"Riders must stop taking advantage of their bosses to steal because some motorbike owners are old. Theft is illegal and punishable by law," he added.
