Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago and County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat on Thursday led leaders from the North Rift Economic Bloc (Noreb) who held a meeting in Eldoret town.
The meeting had one main agenda; to roll out the plans to make the bloc active about five years after its formation.
Noreb, formed in 2015 saw eight counties from the region come together to pursue common interests in investments, infrastructure, tourism and business.
The counties are Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Nandi, Turkana, Samburu and Trans Nzoia.
However, since the formation of the block, little of its goals have been achieved and on Thursday, governors and County Assembly Speakers of the member counties met in Eldoret and put in place measures to revive and activate the bloc.
Mandago who is also the chairperson of the bloc admitted that the block has been slow but was confident that it will achieve its goals.
"We might have been slow but we are very sure and organised. We should all appreciate that everything we do must be anchored in the law and this is why we are seeking the necessary legislation that can be an enabler to the realisation of collaborative development across all our counties,” Mandago was quoted by the Standard.
Noreb Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dominic Biwott on his part said; “Speakers under the Noreb have agreed they will table the Bill they have drafted to ensure the operations of the regional economic bloc are ratified without further delays.”
The leaders from two arms of county governments agreed to work together in raising the funds that will help in running the affairs of the bloc.
