The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has directed Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe and her fiance Joseph Irungu alias Jowie be charged with the murder Monica Nyawira Kimani.
Monica was found murdered in her house located at Lamour Apartments on September 20, 2018.
In a statement dated October 9, Haji stated that after reviewing the evidence in the murder of Monica, both Jacque and Jowie should be charged with murder.
“I have independently reviewed the evidence so far on record and am satisfied that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution against the following individuals for the offence of Murder Contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code,” read part of Haji's statement.
The two were on Tuesday morning arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts where Justice Jessie Lesiit directed they be remanded until Monday, October 15.
Maribe will be remanded at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison while Mr Irungu alias Jowie will be remanded at Industrial Area prison.
Justice Lesiit also directed Maribe to be taken to the Mathari hospital for mental assessment while Jowie is taken to hospital so that his left hand which sustained a gunshot wound can be attended to.
The move to present them in court together has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some arguing that the journalist snubbed her fiance.
Here are some of the reactions as posted on United States of Kiambu Facebook group.
