Through County Commissioner Joseph Nthenge, the police have also called upon relatives of the 45-year-old to come forth and help in the exercise of identifying him.

The man was stoned to death by irate residents at Sumba village in Muhuru Bay, Nyatike on Tuesday evening, after allegedly being caught with a stolen motorcycle.

Nthenge said that the deceased is not a native of the area and is suspected to have come from neighbouring Tanzania.

"It is alleged that residents accused him of being in possession of a stolen motorbike which he was unable to explain who owned it. He was then attacked and stoned to death,” the County Commissioner was quoted by the Standard.

He said that no arrests have been made so far, assuring members of the public interested in helping solve the puzzle of their security.

"We appeal to anyone who might know the victim or anybody who claims that his motorbike was stolen to come forward to assist police in identifying the man and the owner of the motorbike. We also call on anyone with information in assisting police to arrest people who killed the victim to also come forward. Their information will be treated anonymously," Nthenge said while also advising locals against taking the law into their own hands.

The body of the deceased is lying at the Migori Level Four Hospital pending the identification process.
