Opposition leader Raila Odinga and his supposed hold of his Luo Nyanza yard is set to be tested once again, courtesy of the looming by election in Ugenya Constituency, Siaya County.
On Friday, the Supreme Court annulled the election of Ugenya lawmaker Chris Karan who clinched power on Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket in the 2017 elections.
The election was contested by former MP David Ochieng', with the apex court now directing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to hold fresh polls.
This means that the former Prime Minister will once again have to prove that he remains the ultimate leader of the region by securing the seat for the second time in two years.
Consequently, he is expected to once again head back to Luo Nyanza to drum up support for the ODM candidate.
Also expected are allegations and propaganda as was witnessed during a similar exercise in Migori County recently.
Among things awaiting the opposition chief are many day-long rallies and roadside public addresses once the campaign window opens.
Should he again secure the seat, then he will have stamped his authority in the region.
However, he will have it hard convincing Kenyans to vote him for the presidency, if he indeed is planning to vie in 2022, should his party lose the seat.
