Nakuru County has been selected as the model county for this year’s Kalasha Festival which will be held at the end of this month.
According to Nakuru County chief officer Gender, Culture and Social services Tume Abduba, the event will promote film production and tourism.
She added that a few months ago, (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) UNESCO chose Nakuru as a model county for standard research on creative and cultural activities.
Latest statistics from Kenya National Bureau of Statistics places Nakuru fifth on gender issues and tourism.
Tume, in an exclusive interview on Monday, said the event will be held in Nairobi but Nakuru is the county that will be focused on due to the fact that the county has been on the forefront in promoting culture through various activities.
According to the chief officer, a film produced in Nakuru early this year will also feature during this year’s Kalasha festivals.
“Kalasha Festival will be held in Nairobi but Nakuru County will be the county of focus following our contribution in matters of culture promotion. We are the only county that has been observing international performance week. Also, the latest statistics from Kenya National Bureau of Statistics places Nakuru fifth on gender issues and tourism,” said Tume.
The three-days event will run from March 26-28 where Nakuru will showcase its position as a county for tourism, cultural sites and film location.
UNESCO has also shown interest in Nakuru County and will be testing a research tool on data collection in the region.
“Our work has attracted UNESCO, French Embassy and even our own Kenya Film Commission,” said Tume.
