New Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho on Saturday started his reign with a Premier League match against West Ham United; a match Spurs won 3-2.
Goals from Son Heung-Min in the 36th minute, Lucas Moura in the 43rd, and Harry Kane in the 49th, put Mourinho’s side in control before Michail Antonio rose from the bench to score a goal for West Ham United in the 73rd minute.
Angelo Ogbonna scored United's second goal in the 96th minute.
However, Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama was nowhere for Spurs.
Mourinho employed the 4-3-2-1 formation with Paulo Gazzaniga; Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Ben Davies; Eric Dier, Harry Winks; Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane starting for Spurs.
Giovani Lo Celso, Christian Eriksen, Kyle Walker-Peters, Moussa Sissoko, Brandon Austin, Danny Rose and Juan Foyth started on the bench, totally locking Wanyama out of the game.
Mourinho was appointed on Tuesday to replace the sacked Argentine Mauricio Pochettino.
The departed coach used the Harambee Stars captain sparingly, and most Kenyan fans had hoped that Mourinho will trust him for a starting place.
On Wednesday, Western Stima’s Head of Communications Dennis Mogendi said Wanyama will be among the beneficiaries of Mourinho’s appointment as Spurs manager.
“I know Wanyama will play for Spurs under Mourinho because we know him as a defensive coach, and Wanyama is good in that aspect. Secondly, Mourinho likes players with energy and power. Wanyama fits the bill, he ticks all the boxes of a typical Mourinho player,” he said.
