The athlete on Tuesday began training with South African female side JVW but remains unable to play for the team until the opening of the transfer window early next year.

She confirmed the same on Thursday, expressing her excitement as she prepares to play for the team beginning 2020.

"I am grateful for this opportunity and I appreciate the love and support I already get from the team. I am looking forward to this new journey, and hopefully I can contribute as much as I can to the club," she said.

Her joining the team was confirmed by Janine Van Wyk, the team owner, and South African national women's soccer team Banyana Banyana captain.

"I am absolutely honoured that out of all the other women's clubs around the world, she has chosen JVW as the club where she would like to start showcasing her football skills," she said.

Semenya is currently in the process of appealing Court of Arbitration for Sports approval of an IAAF push to have female athletes take the testosterone test and cannot, therefore, defend her title in Doha, Qatar in September.
