The lecturer had been awarded the degree in 2018 before it was revoked.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina on Tuesday confirmed the revocation of the PhD. He said that the lecturer was teaching at the social science department.

He has since been asked to return the certificate to the management of the institution as probe continues.

“The KU lecturer had been awarded a Phd on August 4 2018 for a thesis he had submitted. Upon receipt of the complaint, the Vice-Chancellor set up a committee to review the validity of the claims,” read part of the statement, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Wainana said that the committee tasked with investigating the lecturer had handed in the report on April 12, 2019.

The report indicated that the lecturer had copied part of the work hence leading to the cancellation of his PhD.

He also said that he had colluded with other officials at the institution to give him a go ahead to graduate even after it failed to pass the test.
