Reformed Church of East Africa (RCEA) moderator Rev. Geoffrey Songok has cautioned politicians against tribalization of the ongoing war on graft.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Songok said those linked to corruption should be handled as individuals and not as a community.
“Corruption should not be seen as targeting a certain tribe. An individual is the one who is corrupt not an entire community,” said the clergy.
“Let us not politicize the fight on corruption,” he added.
The sentiments seemed to have been directed to a section of Deputy President William Ruto's allies led by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi who have claimed that the war on graft was targeting professionals from the Kalenjin community.
This is after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently approved the arrest, and prosecution of several top parastatal bosses, most of who are from the Kalenjin community.
On the political issues, the RCEA moderator called for a hold to the ongoing talk of the 2022 succession politics.
“We don’t want the country to be taken back to the election mood. The current talk of 2022 presidential election is dividing the nation into blocks which is not good,” noted Rev. Songok.
