According to an update by a local Somali television channel, RTN Somali TV, the student identified as Ahmed Ali was freed after the investigating police failed to provide sufficient evidence to charge the boy of treason as earlier on revealed.

"Ahmed Ali, the KCSE candidate who was arrested for writing plans to kill President Uhuru and Majority Leader Aden Duale in his English paper freed after police failed to convince a court in Mandera to have him held and investigated for committing treason," reads an update by RTN Somali TV.

While producing the said student before a Mandera court last week, the prosecution alleged the Elimu Bora boy had penned down a chilling message threatening to murder President Uhuru Kenyatta and Majority leader Aden Duale at an unknown date.

Furthermore, it was said the message was written in the student's English Paper One answer booklet in the just concluded 2018 KCSE exams.

The charges attracted widespread condemnation of the prosecution for nailing a student over a creative fiction.

Among the individuals who had publicly demanded the release of the boy is Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdulahi who stated that a person cannot be prosecuted basing on thoughts as sole evidence.
