Former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale says Deputy President William Ruto was among the first Kenyans to call him in relation to his daughter who had not been rescued from Dusit Hotel complex on Tuesday.
At 3:27am on Wednesday, Khalwale announced safe evacuation of his daughter from the building after about 14 hours of anguish, tension and desperation.
But in a phone call to Citizen TV, Khalwale hailed the DP among other leaders for standing in solidarity with him at the hour of need, even though he did not reveal the name or exact mission of his daughter at the scene.
"I want to thank Deputy President William Ruto for his concerns about my daughter. He called me a while ago to establish the whereabouts of my daughter and I are very grateful. However, we are still waiting here.
"Also Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi have also called me. Mudavadi's daughter was also among those trapped in the building but she has since been evacuated by security forces earlier on Tuesday evening," he said.
Suspected Al Shabaab militants stormed into the building in Nairobi's Westland area at 3pm local time, shooting randomly and killing a number of people in one of the latest horrendous attack in as many months.
The government through Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said the building which hosts among others, Dusit Hotel, had been secured from the armed criminals.
"Everything is now safe, Kenyans can undergo their businesses. Security forces responded swiftly under a coordinated command. We shall not succumb to tthreats and acts of cowardice like what we have seen today," Matiang'i stated.
