Leaders from Kirinyaga have kicked off a campaign that they envisage will help elevate Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru to the position of deputy president in 2022.
The leaders led by Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri say Waiguru's leadership abilities have been tested and are convinced that the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary can serve Kenya well.
"Once Ann Waiguru declares her position, we encourage Kenyans to support because she is a leader. We have seen the leadership skills that she has," said Ndambiri in an interview with KTN television.
"She is the Vice Chair of the Council of Governors and I think that gives us the confidence that she can lead this nation."
There have been claims that Waiguru may actually deputize Ruto in 2022 despite a recent Ipsos Synovate poll indicating that she is the second most corrupt serving leader in Kenya after Ruto.
Ruto has already set his eyes on the presidency in 2022 and has since January been traversing the country crafting alliances with leaders from different regions.
A pact the DP signed with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 says that Uhuru will rally Central Kenya voters to vote for the former Eldoret North MP when 2022 comes.
Already elected leaders from the counties that constitute Mt Kenya region- Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Murang'a and Nyeri are already in dialogue on where Ruto's deputy will come from.
