Fifteen former MPs from the Mt Kenya region have vowed to back Opposition leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential race.
Speaking after talks with the ODM leader in Nairobi, the former MPs from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties led by Kilemi Mwiria said if the ODM leader runs, they will be behind him.
“If he decides to run, we will support him fully,” Mwiria said.
“This is Kenya's moment. We ask our colleagues to stop insulting Raila during their church harambees. It's unholy to misuse places of worship,” Mwiria, who was once Uhuru’s adviser, added.
The MPs also accused a political wing attached to the Deputy President William Ruto of sabotaging the war against graft.
“We know those who have been sabotaging the process since it was initiated. We also know the Mt Kenya leaders who joined them, thronging different churches to insult Raila,” he said.
The leaders said apart from the Big Four Agenda, President Kenyatta should leave a legacy of fighting corruption. They told off those ‘opposed’ to the ongoing war on corruption.
“President Kenyatta shouldn't be blackmailed by barons of graft. He must mercilessly crash all merchants of impunity and cleanse Kenya. That will be his best legacy,” the former Uhuru adviser said.
