Security agents have issued a stern warning to criminal gangs terrorizing residents in Kisauni and Nyali constituencies, Mombasa County.
Regional coordinator Bernard Leparmarai said they have launched investigations into claims that politicians are funding criminal gangs in the country.
Speaking to journalists at Uhuru na Kazi offices in Mombasa on Thursday, Leparmarai said anyone found to be funding criminal gangs’ activities in the county will be arrested.
He said the security agents are pursing leads that will lead to the arrest of those behind criminal activities and their financiers.
“We have launched investigations and the police will soon arrest the people sponsoring criminal gangs in Mombasa.”
“Somebody must be funding these people and I want to tell you that whoever it is and however connected or big you are, we will come for you and your godfather,” Leparmarai told Nation.
On Wednesday, Nyali MP Mohammed Ali claimed that youth are being misused by influential people to cause crime in the county.
Ali said politicians who lost during the 2017 General Elections were financing criminal activities to prove that the current office holders are incapable of fulfilling their mandate.
The regional coordinator said gangs are to blame for crimes in Kisauni as they want to disrupt peace and intimidate people adding that more than 20 people have been killed by the gangs in the past two months.
He urged members of the public to work closely with the police in order to arrest members of the criminal gangs.
