Led by the county's chairman of the Muslim Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Sheikh Abubakar Bini and his Gospel Ministers counterpart Bishop Wilson Kurui, the clergy expressed concerns that elected leaders were using much of their time engaging in politics instead of serving the electorate.

“It’s sad that despite politicians being elected to work for the electorates, they are now busy discussing who will be who in 2022 which is contrary to their mandate,” said Bishop Kurui.

“The debate of who will get what post in 2022 is not necessary now. Such early campaigns will lead to political anxiety and if we do not take care our country will be divided ahead of the next election,” added Sheikh Bini.

The two religious leaders challenged elected leaders across the political divide to concentrate on fulfilling the pledges they made to the electorate during the 2017 electioneering period.

Despite the next general elections expected to be held in the next over three years, there is already talk of who will be succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta as politicians from different regions strategize for the country's top seat
