Ms. Otieno's mutilated body was retrieved from Kodera forest hours after going missing at the hands of kidnappers.

And a source close to the family insists that Obado's kin had plotted to execute the Medical Records student to avert embarrassment she had caused the family, a theory lawyer Cliff Ombeta dispels.

"Sharon had wrote to the governor's son informing him to respect her as his mother since she was carrying the governor's baby," he said.

While Obado met Sharon in November 2017, his son developed closeness with her in April this year.

And the relationship may have scared the family which reportedly hatched a plan to eliminate her.

“They started dating in April this year and were spotted together in Kisumu and Migori,” said the source who is a close friend to Obado, his son and daughter.

“Sharon feared for her life. She was worried the relative was plotting something bad after realising that she was being monitored and trailed,” said the source, adding that the idea of poisoning Sharon was even considered.

Although the source says Obado's perceived PA was close to First Lady Helen Obado, Ombeta dismisses the claim insisting that the latter did not even have Mr. Michael Oyamo's contacts.

Mr. Oyamo has been languishing in police custody after being named prime suspect in the murder.

A statement recorded by Obado with detectives intimates that the governor had formally introduced Ms. Otieno to his family when he realised the relationship could take a political angle.
