The Ministry of Interior and Coordination has launched a security operation in Kisauni, Mombasa with an aim to flush out criminal elements.
Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i said his Ministry will not tolerate cases of insecurity in Mombasa and the larger Coast region.
Addressing the press after leading a regional security meeting in Mombasa, Matiang'i indicated that "the major cause of insecurity is the so called 'disco matanga'" and further warned that "there will be no such entertainment events going beyond 11pm in the coast region."
Flanked by the Inspector General of the National Police Service Bwana Joseph Boinett and Coast region police bosses, the CS warned that "the government will not negotiate on the security of Kenyans."
On Monday, Matiang'i met Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi after launching new digital system in latest push for police reforms.
Governor Kingi hailed the system, saying digitalization of police operations and registration of police officers in the information management system (IMS) will go a long way in guaranteeing the wellbeing of the officers as well as the safety of the common 'mwananchi' and provide a conducive environment in the day to day livelihood with the certainty that justice will be administered fairly and effectively.
