According to area administrators, the victims were part of two groups that were involved in a fight for pasture in the drought striken region.

Confirming the incident, Lagdera Deputy County Commissioner Philip Koima said that a manhunt has been launched in pursuit of the perpetrators.

He added that his team is working in collaboration with law enforcers in Garbatula in Isiolo county, to bring the suspects to book and subject them to the law.

The police boss told the Saturday Standard that the incident happened at a water point, and has partly blamed the situation on the many illegal guns owned by civilians in the area.

This comes only months after another such incident claimed three lives along the Garissa-Isiolo border, after two groups of armed herders clashed, resulting in gun battle.

The two counties have lost hundreds of lives in such incidents since 2015, as rival groups of herders and clans fight and retaliate over the limited pasture and water.

The two counties are among 11 others hit by the ongoing drought and famine, which has subjected close to 1 million people to possible starvation.
