In an interview on Radio Citizen's Mjadala Wa Citizen Wednesday morning, the Bungoma Senator said that the party is not planning to participate in the race set for April.

Instead, he noted, it will back Wiper Party candidate Julius Mawathe whose August 8 election was nullified by the Supreme Court in December.

"We have received requests from people seeking our party ticket to vie for the seat but we have blocked them. We will rally behind the Wiper candidate," he said.

He condemned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) which has also fronted former area lawmaker Irshad Sumra in the race, as he (Sumra) seeks to recapture the seat.

Wetangula urged the opposition chief Raila Odinga-led side, a member party of the opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) to step down and back Wiper.

"It would be better if ODM backed down and supported Wiper in the spirit of the brotherhood within NASA. The party must think twice in trying to snatch the seat away," he added.

Sumra successfully challenged Mawathe's election in court leading to the nullification.

Wiper is led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

NASA also accommodates Ford Kenya and the Amani National Congress (ANC) party.
