A section of athletic fans in Uasin Gishu county cannot wait to see 3,000m steeplechase legend Ezekiel Kemboi making a comeback.
They are wondering why the 36-year-old decided to quit the steeplechase race yet he is still energetic.
“Kemboi has the ability to win races, he is still young and energetic and can still produce fabulous performances if he makes a comeback on the track,” said George Kirwa, an athletics coach based in Eldoret town.
Kirwa added that the 2012 Olympic gold medalist has a strong fan base in Uasin Gishu and across the country hence he should return back to the track.
“The athletics industry still needs him because he is a legend, he has skillfully won a lot of races across the world and it is not good for him to go behind the scenes, he can even make a comeback as an athletics coach or consultant to upcoming athletes," noted another local.
Kemboi announced his retirement after he was disqualified in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for allegedly running outside his lane.
There have been reports that the celebrated steeplechase king is planning to start running marathon race.
However, hundreds of his fans cannot wait to see him running again since they believe that he is not yet too old to run.
Kemboi won dozens of titles in his steeplechase career including gold medals at the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games, four IAAF world championship titles among others.
