President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to have finally decided to settle his initial rivalry and bad blood with the Luo Nyanza region.

However, this should not be confused to be an act of goodwill but rather a political tact aimed at cleansing himself ahead of his 2022 retirement, most likely.

Uhuru seeks to leave a legacy which only the region seems to be withholding from him, as he has been repeatedly involved in scuffles with its residents and leaders.

The region has lost property and people as a result of political demonstrations after allegations by opposition leader and area kingpin Raila Odinga that Uhuru rigged him out, a claim most Nyanza residents believe and are yet to forget.

Uhuru knows that leaving power with the tag of a man who stole elections and kept silent as a section of Kenyans were being killed hanging on his neck will taint his legacy.

Therefore, he is trying to look redeem his image by initiating development in the area and befriending area leaders to cleverly and safely get out in one piece.

Also, this could be having something to do with the proposed referendum and 2022 elections.

The President could be trying to win the region over to his side, ahead of a major political alliance, most probably including Raila Odinga.

The two are aware that there exists some suspicion between the region and Uhuru and to kill that, he (Uhuru) has to prove himself.

And dealing with a region which has twice been allegedly betrayed and sidelined by leaders from Mt Kenya; by founding father Jomo Kenyatta in 1966 and retired President Mwai Kibaki in 2007, he is not taking any chances.

This comes at a time when he has vowed to launch development initiatives in the region and has seen his cabinet secretaries oversee the campaign.

However, on the other hand, he might have just decided to not leave the nation behind on his development agenda.
