Kameru's first term at the helm of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was expected to end in September, but Uhuru a fortnight ago prolonged his stay in office.

According to a source aware of the decision, the NIS boss who was first appointed on August 21, 2014, has already been furnished with the letter touching on his new term.

“The DG (Kameru) has already received the letter of renewal,” the source told the Standard, even as Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena remains tight-lipped on the issue.

Asked about the claims on Wednesday, Dena said; "It will (decision) be communicated to the public in due time."

Details indicate that the president is impressed with Kameru's performance as the NIS Director-General.

The Standard has established that Uhuru has based his decision on the fact that terror incidences have reduced remarkably, as compared to what was the case under his predecessor Michael Gichangi.

Kameru is also said to have played a major role in Uhuru's 2018 truce with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and has also been very instrumental in the war against graft.

He is expected to play an important role in the transition and succession politics of 2022 where Uhuru is expected to slip into retirement.
