The Kenya Films and Classification Board (KFCB) has issued a stun warning against video show owners screening inappropriate content to underage children.
According to North Rift region KFCB officer Emanuel Mbutu, anyone found contravening laws and regulations governing the film industry will be arrested and prosecuted.
“We are looking for sex and nudity, promotion of drugs and substance abuse, violence and films that promote religious extremism. As a board, we won’t hesitate taking legal action against video show owners found selling or showing these kinds of content,” he noted.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Mbutu further advised parents to be on the lookout for their children pointing out that most of them access inappropriate content through home-installed internet.
“Parents have installed internet in their homes which is used to stream movies and as a parent, it’s good to know what your children watch on their phones and while at home the whole day,” said the KFCB officer.
Mbuti assured those in the film industry that they are willing to protect them against individuals posing as police officers with the intention of harassing and extorting them.
“It is our duty as a board to protect those in the film industry and we are willing to effectively execute this mandate as long as we have a good working relationship with the stakeholders involved,” Mbutu noted.
