Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has revealed the state of progress in the rehabilitation of former Kenyan boxer Conjestina Achieng.
While speaking through his Facebook page, the governor said that the boxer was responding well to treatment and rehabilitation.
Sonko said this on Tuesday morning where he also acknowledged receipt of financial aid from the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Board.
"This afternoon we are happy to receive financial support from the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Board towards the rehabilitation of veteran female boxer Congestina Achieng," he posted.
"The female boxer is recovering well at a rehab in Nairobi," he added.
Many former sportsmen have been languishing in poverty especially in areas like Kibera where they recline to oblivion after fame.
Leaders and organisations now coming in to rehabilitate and improve their lives is a positive sign to the sporting world.
