High Court Judge Luka Kimaru handed detectives a major victory on Wednesday as inquest to Sharon Otieno's murder continued to dominate headlines.
Mr. George Kinoti's men will now have 14 days to gather more evidence that can lead to successful prosecution of Michael Oyamo, an aide to Migori Governor Okoth Obado.
The suspect, who was however not required to take plea in Sharon's murder, will be detained at Muthaiga police station.
Defense team led by Rodgers Abisai had accused prosecutors of illegally holding Mr. Oyamo for five days contrary to the constitution.
In the charge sheet, detectives indicated that Mr. Oyamo would be charged with murder having been one of the last people to be seen with the deceased student who was abducted along with journalist Barack Oduor.
His boss, Okoth Obado, was grilled on Tuesday in Kisumu and later released on condition that he obeys summons whenever needed.
Lawyer Cliff Ombeta on his behalf, said that the two had romantic relationship but insisted dragging him to the mysterious murder was political.
At the time of death, Sharon is said to have been pregnant with Obado suspected to be the father.
On Monday, detectives had also managed to secure request at Homa Bay to continue holding Mr. Oyamo as key suspect in the country's latest most controversial death.
