Three years after the tragic terror attack that claimed at least147 souls at the Garissa University, the institution has made big strides towards boosting student safety within the precincts of the campus.
A visit to the academic institution reveals a safe environment, conducive to higher level learning.
For instance, the institution has erected a perimeter wall with well marked entry and exit points that are manned by armed police officers.
Similarly, there are tall watch towers that make it easy for security officers to monitor the security situation within the campus and even beyond.
According to the Vice Chancellor Professor Ahmed Warfa, parents are still hesitant to have their children in the institution, fearing a terrorist attack might happen.
The University boss says that some students completely keep off the institution even when they are admitted to the regular programs.
"We still have a challenge. Parents are still hesitant to have their children here. The 2015 attack is still fresh to some of them, but I can assure the institution is as safe as any other university in Kenya," revealed Prof Warfa.
In bid to market the institution, the VC calls on the media to shun negative publicity of the region a thing that he alleges has painted a false image of Garissa and its surrounding environs.
