Kisii Governor James Ongwae has called for the unity of the Lake Region Economic Block LREB as the member counties push for it to be recognized by the law.
Speaking after his address to Busia county assembly, Governor Ongwae took to his facebook page and expreesed concerns of the success of the block.
''I emphasised on the need by all the counties to ensure their forward budgets for the coming financial year includes resources for the economic bloc in order to make it strong and fully operational," said the Governor.
Mr Ongwae however noted that the 14 counties will benefit their locals if its (LREB) unity is addreesed.
''It is my believe that the regional bloc will moult into a successful economic venture that benefits locals as established in the ten pillars of our regional engagement.'' added the Governor.
LREB is a conglomeration of 14 Kenyan counties in the Lake Victora region namely;Siaya,Kisumu,Homabay,Busia,Migori,Nandi,Vihiga,Kakamega,Trans Nzioa, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Nyamira and Kisii.
In his address the Governor however gave out the intended objective why the came together to form the block
"leadership in these 14 counties came together with the objective of helping leverage on the available resources and through common market orientation, improve on the livelihoods of approximately 14 million area residents," Mr Ongwae added.
Mr Ongwae was in the company of the Chairman of the Lake Region Economic Bloc Wycliffe Oparanya and Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong'o in a visit to Busia County where we were hosted by Sospeter Ojaamong following Busia county recent decision to pass the LREB statute making the bloc a legal entity as required by law.
