Deputy President William Ruto has downplayed ongoing talks of the 2022 succession politics saying he is ready to battle it out with other candidates for the country's top seat.
Speaking at his rural home in Sugoi on Wednesday after hosting leaders from Bungoma and Busia counties, Ruto said he is ready to fight for the presidency in 2022.
"Politics is all about battling with other contestants and you can not just sit down waiting to be given a seat on a silver platter, you need to fight it out and I am ready for that," said the DP who is widely expected to vie for the seat on a Jubilee party ticket.
"I see other people waiting to be endorsed, my friend you need to fight for it," he added.
Ruto also noted that 2022 politics will be all about what an individual has done to the electorate.
He further reaffirmed his opposition to proposals to merge some wards, constituencies and counties saying he will also support a referendum whose agenda is to ensure more funds are channelled to devolved units.
