Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe has in the past week been a force to reckon with.
On Wednesday, he fiercely came out saying the party has no MoU to support Deputy President (DP) William Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.
The now embattled Murathe added that this was an agreement between the DP and President Uhuru Kenyatta and in no way was it a unanimous decision by the Kikuyu community and Mt Kenya region by extension.
Since then, several politicians have asked for his removal, the latest being Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who called for fresh party elections to tame “internal divisions”.
However, the big question remains, how easy is it to oust the Jubilee vice chair?
According to Kiambu-based politician and psychologist Gladys Chania, Murathe is not a nobody in Jubilee as some factions have wished him away.
“I don't think Murathe is a nobody in Jubilee Party,” she said when contacted.
“If anyone thinks he (Murathe) is a nobody in Jubilee, let Ruto as deputy party leader discipline him either with party membership suspension or withdraw his vice chairman portfolio, for speaking on behalf of the party against its deputy party leader,” she added.
Ruto has steered clear of the matter while Uhuru on Friday during an interview with journalists at State House in Mombasa dismissed assertions that Murathe was speaking on behalf of the party.
A visibly agitated President noted that what Murathe said was a personal opinion.
He said when time comes, they will have systems in place to know who to support for the 2022 succession debacle.
