After losing to governor Jackson Mandago in 2013 during the heated United Republican party's (URP) preliminaries, Kenya’s ambassador to Pakistan Dr Julius Bitok seems to be more determined to clinch the seat in the coming 2022 general elections.

He has been spending most of his time within Uasin Gishu county visiting different villages and attending functions including making donations.

Unlike Zedekiah Kiprop Buzeki who is also eying the gubernatorial seat and who appears to be the frontrunner, Bitok has been appearing in the company of the governor Mandago, outspoken Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and other top leaders in the county.

Together with Mandago, Dr Bitok led a delegation of leaders from Uasin Gishu County who visited Deputy President William Ruto in his Sugoi rural home late last year. His closeness with the governor during the event suggested that the two are enjoying a good political relationship.

Bitok is yet to publicly declare his gubernatorial bid but his close confidants have maintained that he will be on the ballot box and will, therefore, be battling it out with Buzeki who is definitely a strong force to be reckoned with.
