More leaders have come out to react to recent utterances made by Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany over the 2022 Uasin Gishu gubernatorial contest.
This is after Kositany said the Nandi community would decide who succeeds Mandago, a statement that has stirred ethnic contest in the county.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Major (Rtd) Joh Seii, a Kalenjin elder termed Kositany's statement as unwise.
Seii pointed out that Uasin Gishu is a cosmopolitan county and a single community cannot determine who to be the leader.
"I would say such a statement was unwise and not expected to come from a leader of his calibre," he said.
The retired Army major who has been involved in various peacemaking activities in the North Rift region insisted that all communities living in Uasin Gishu county will have its role in determining who succeeds Mandago in the 2022 elections.
"Communities, especially those with a numerical superiority will have a say on who wins what position in the coming poll and this is why they will need to sit down and discuss in consultation with elders to give advice and a way forward," insisted Major (Rtd) Seii.
Uasin Gishu is a largely cosmopolitan county but the Kalenjin community are the majority, with the Nandi subtribe having a numerical advantage against the others.
