In a tweet on Friday, the CS assured all other stakeholders operating in, and around the lake of their security, adding that the state will initiate measures to realize the pledge.

The same, he said, will also be directed at all the other regions surrounding the lake.

‘’I want to assure you that the Government will ensure security of our fishermen in Lake Victoria and all other Kenyans carrying out any other economic activity around the lake region,’’ he tweeted.

This comes at a time when Kenyan fishermen in the lake shared between the nation, Uganda and Tanzania have been lamenting of harassment from Ugandan forces.

The fishermen have more than once accused the Ugandan forces of abducting, and locking them up in Ugandan cells when they come across them fishing in some parts of the lake which they argue are on the Kenyan side.

The two nations are also yet to agree on the Migingo Island issue which has been the main bone of contention between the two countries, with Kenyan fishermen living and operating in the area lamenting of similar problems despite it being on the Kenyan side.
