A grandson to former President Daniel Moi is accused of abandoning his girlfriend in a Trans Nzoia hotel after booking her in.
Collins Moi reportedly booked in the lady, Marsha Amario, at the Skynest Hotel in Kitale on December 29, before taking off, leaving her with a hefty bill to clear.
Collins, who is Jonathan Moi's son, reportedly flew Amario from Nairobi to celebrate her birthday after booking a six-day stay at the hotel.
He is alleged to have later sneaked out on Saturday and headed to his grandfather's home in Kabarak, leaving the lady to pay the bill which had accumulated to Sh100,000.
The hotel management said that Collins seemed non committal on paying the bill despite appearing to have every capability to do so.
He would with time be unavailable as the hotel and Marsha tried to reach him on phone.
"We tried to engage Collins to pay the bill when it was manageable but he responded that he will pay the following day," Timothy Simiyu, a manager said.
"He looked like a responsible person. He had so many friends who had surrounded him at the hotel and he bought so many expensive drinks for them," he added, as quoted by the Nation.
This forced the hotel to report the matter to the police on Thursday, leading to Marsha's arrest. She was later released after a senior member of Moi's family promised to settle the bill.
The arrest was confirmed by Trans Nzoia West Police Boss Jackson Omwenga. Marsha is reported to be the daughter of the late Fai Omar Amario, former owner of Naivasha Winery.
