Mr Stephen Maina of the Full Time Winners Gospel Church and the chairman of the bishops’ forum said the meeting has been postponed since Dr Ruto who was to be the chief guest, will be attending the burial of Jonathan Moi, the son of former President Daniel arap Moi.

“The deputy president will not be available for the rally and since he was the main guest, we have postponed the meeting to May 11,” he told the Nation by phone.

The prayer rally which was scheduled at Kenol this Saturday was to among others, pray for unity in the country besides commiting Dr Ruto to the hands of God. The Bishops reportedly started planning for the rally when the visited Ruto in Karen.

But a Catholic Bishop denied knowledge of the prayer rally, adding that no committee was set to organise such a rally. The divisions are said to have frustrated the meeting thus the decision to postpone.

“I never attended any steering committee meeting and I was not planning to attend the prayer rally since I have another retreat. That’s the fact,” he told the Nation by phone.

Several politicians from Mt Kenya region among them Governor Mwangi wa Iria of Murang'a and MP Ndindi Nyoro of Kiharu were expected. The leaders have remained steadfast in Ruto's camp despite resistance from President Uhuru Kenyatta's allies.

Earlier this week, Dr Ruto insisted that he will continue working with the church despite politics that have lately eclipsed it's operations. ACK archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit on Tuesday warned church leaders against tolerating huge donations from politicians.

Dr Ruto has been on spot, with NASA leader Raila Odinga often questioning the source of his money which he often contributes to churches.
