Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has disclosed that the Kitui County Textile Centre will soon start making uniforms for police officers in the country.
Speaking at Syongila on Thursday, Ngilu said that they are done making the uniforms for chiefs and assistant chiefs, adding that they have already been distributed to the different counties.
"We have the order to make chiefs' uniforms which has been successful. This morning on my way here I received a call from the police informing me that we will be given the order of making police uniforms," said Ngilu.
She noted that the order will require more workforce thus creating job opportunities to the youths in the county.
"What does that mean, it means wealth creation to our county. These uniforms would have been made in Malaysia, China or even turkey but the chance has been given to us Kitui people and our youths will benefit," said Ngilu.
She said that she will ensure other textile centres are started in Mutomo and Mwingi areas in a bid to create opportunities for the youths in the said areas.
The county boss reiterated her commitment to curbing unemployment among the youth in the country.
Last month the government supplied the county with 23,400 metres of textile material.
