It is now official that the late Sharon Otieno will be buried on October 19, at her grand fathers’ home in Magare Village, Homabay County.
The slain Rongo University student was murdered by unknown people early last month, and her body dumped at Kodera forest.
The family had initially stated that she will not be buried until her killers are identified, arrested and charged, but have since changed their mind and settled on October 19.
Reports from the funeral committee indicate that the ceremony will cost approximately one million shillings.
“We have not hit the target to cater for the burial expenses and we are appealing to well-wishers to assist us,” the funeral committee chairman Elijah Opiyo was quoted by Citizen Digital.
The cottage will leave Kirindo Hospital mortuary in Mbita on Thursday, October 18, a day before the burial ceremony, as is stipulated in the Luo tradition.
The funeral committee chair Elijah Opiyo noted that they are expecting a high number of visitors following the gruesome murder of the late Sharon.
The late Rongo University student was killed alongside her unborn baby, with DNA tests indicating that Migori Governor Okoth Obado was the father of the unborn.
