The three, Peter Kimani, his wife Zipporah Kimani and their son David Gikonyo were travelling from Nairobi to Nakuru when the accident occurred.

The car they were travelling in collided head-on with another car which was overtaking at Kinungi near a Pefa Church on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

The news of their demise was published on the obituary column of the September 5, 2018 edition of the Nation newspaper.

“The late David Gikonyo Kimani is the son of the late Peter Kimani Gikonyo and the late Ziporrah Muthoni Gikonyo and the only brother to the late Grace Wambui Kimani,” read the obituary in part.

The accident occurred two months after the family buried their daughter who fell ill shortly after her graduation.

Relatives of the three have announced that burial arrangements have already started in their home in Ruiru, with the funeral set to be held on  Tuesday, September 11.

The Kinungi stretch along the Nairobi-Nakuru road is among the most dangerous roads in Kenya according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
