A man is nursing injuries after he was beaten for stealing sugarcane.
The incident happened on Saturday evening at Bokeire, Bonchari in Kisii County.
Confirming the incident area assistant chief, Joseph Ogori said the suspect, Elbon Mogeni, was caught stealing sugarcane at his neighbour’s farm.
“Mogeni has been stealing from people’s farms. His forty days reached and he was caught by his neighbour stealing sugarcane. Nyumba Kumi officials were alerted by the neighbour and arrested the man from his house where he was hiding,” said Ogori.
The chief said the suspect admitted that he has been stealing his neighbour’s sugarcane in order to sell them at Daraja Mbili market prompting to the thorough beating.
He warned locals against theft saying the law will not spare anyone.
“Theft is illegal and punishable by law. I wish to urge members of the public to stop stealing failure to which they will find themselves on the wrong side of the law,” he noted.
Ogori added that residents should work hard and eat their sweat instead of being lazy, waking up early in the morning to sit on roads.
