Thirty-five-year-old Jackson Makori is a vegetable vendor in Kisii town market who has ventured into a female dominated business.
Makori who is a father of six, joined his kibanda business in 2014 after he lost his wife in a fatal road accident and was forced to step in as the breadwinner.
"My wife had a kibanda here and after her demise, I had to step in and continue with what she had started. I now cut sukuma wiki just like the other women in the market and my customers love it," Makori said.
He says he makes more than Sh30,000 per month which has enabled him to provide for his family start his rental houses construction.
"I am almost finishing my rental houses around Kisii University. My small kibanda has funded all the mjengo that has been going on," he said.
However, he has undergone various challenges in his business as he has been insulted for venturing into a female dominated business.
"They have insulted me saying that I should join the masculine job. Little did they know I will be a landlord soon due to my hard work," he said.
Makori advised the resident of Kisii to be patient with what they do and that every coin in business matters.
